Helping Airfields Develop Safely
ASD
The ASD consultancy was started in 1997 by Richard Vousden, in response to the increasing profile of aerodrome
safeguarding and the CAA's stated intention to devolve safeguarding responsibilities to all operators. This it did in 2003.
His long and varied background in aviation started when he joined the RAF in 1963. After flight crew training he held a
wide range of posts which included world-wide operations, instructing, examining, airfield and operations auditing, test
flying, and five years, inter alia, as safeguarding advisor to MOD Lands, covering both military and civil contractors’
airfields.
He left the RAF in 1995 to take up the post of Airfield Manager at Cambridge Airport, and started the consultancy in
1997. Since then, ASD has had a very wide variety of projects, examples of which are shown on the projects page.
In 2005 he became honorary advisor on safeguarding to the General Aviation Awareness Council (GAAC).
It is important to underline that, with this wide aviation experience, safeguarding is approached from the aviator’s
viewpoint. So, please contact ASD if you think that we may be able to advise you on safeguarding or allied matters.
